2023 Whaleback Sunsets

This collection of 10x10" paintings was inspired by the evening sunset glow over Lake Michigan by Whaleback Natural Area in Leelanau County, Michigan.

Moment by moment the pastel sky and shadows change as the sun sets and the moon rises. Over the summer our kiddos were talking a lot about the creation story and I'm struck by the way scripture says in Genesis 1:5 "and there was evening and there was morning the first day." It's been a welcome perspective shift for me to think of my day starting in the evening. Starting with rest, and then waking (resurrection!) and then activity. I hope there's a new-ness and freshness captured here that inspires your evenings and mornings.
