2017 Birds and Beasts
For my second collection of livestock, a few cows joined the ranks. I am intrigued with the concept of naming (as understanding, as the first man's first job, as meaning-making, re-naming, nicknaming) and gave a lot of thought to the titles of these paintings/names of these animals (see the painting description to find each animal's name). Three of the chicks already had charming names, like Ruth Bader Hensburg and Chance the Flapper, given to them by my friend Nancy Bullard's science class students at Huntingtowne Farms Elementary in Charlotte, NC.
